Overview
Viper’s SSTDR S100 is a fully engineered, credit card-sized, board-level fault detection engine designed to identify and locate electrical faults in live systems. Using Spread Spectrum Time Domain Reflectometry (SSTDR) technology, it continuously monitors cables and wiring for short circuits, opens, arc faults, and impedance changes—all without interrupting operation.Â
Ideal for OEMs, system designers, and operators, the S100 offers accurate fault detection across cable lengths ranging from meters to kilometres. The SSTDR S100 represents a step change in live fault detection and electrical safety. Built around Spread Spectrum Time Domain Reflectometry technology, it emits a coded, low-voltage signal along conductors, continuously analysing reflections to identify and locate faults—even while power is flowing.Â
Unlike traditional TDR systems, SSTDR allows safe and continuous operation on live electrical networks, removing the need for shutdowns or disconnection. The S100 can detect open circuits, short circuits, arc faults, as well as impedance changes . It also identifies intermittent or evolving faults that are otherwise difficult to capture.Â
Compact and credit card-sized, the S100 is a fully engineered, board-level detection engine that can be easily integrated into OEM equipment or larger diagnostic systems. Multiple modules can operate on the same conductors without interference, supporting cable lengths from just a few centimetres to several kilometres.Â
In the rail sector, SSTDR technology is integrated into Viper’s CableGuardian system, enabling accurate fault detection and location across over one million metres of signalling power cables.
