CableGuardian unites two of Viper’s proven technologies – V-LIM for continuous insulation resistance monitoring and SSTDR for fault detection and location – to deliver complete visibility of cable condition, even while systems remain energised.

The CableGuardian system provides a full-spectrum approach to electrical cable integrity. Its core technologies — V-LIM insulation monitoring and SSTDR (Spread Spectrum Time Domain Reflectometry) fault location — work together to deliver real-time cable health data.

By constantly monitoring insulation resistance, capacitance, and circuit integrity, CableGuardian detects early signs of degradation, intermittent faults, and potential failures. The SSTDR component can quickly locate short or open circuits, even on live systems, without interruption to service.

This data is processed and visualised through the CableGuardian Web Portal, an intuitive, cloud-based analytics platform. The portal supports configurable alarm and pre-alarm settings, visible in real time, and automatically relays data to Network Rail’s Intelligent Infrastructure via standard RS485 communication.
